Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver

As far back as I can remember, I loved the sound of music. Just about everyone listened to The Grand Ole Opry, and our family was no exception. Though I listened to all the stars on the Opry, the group that impressed me most was Bill Monroe and His Blue Grass Boys. His music was different, more intense. High lonesome is the term we used for it. I could hardly wait for Saturday nights to arrive so I could listen. I decided early on that I wanted to play that kind of music.

Claire Lynch

Sometimes, all it takes is a bit of recognition. That's certainly the case with Claire Lynch, your typical two-decades-in-the-making "overnight success". The long overdue attention came as a result of a well-deserved Grammy nomination for Best Bluegrass Album for Claire's 1995 Rounder debut, Moonlighter. Suddenly, after 20 years in the business, six albums, countless sessions with some of Nashville's biggest stars, and increasing success as a songwriter, Claire Lynch had arrived. The mainstream media, agog at her talent, gathered round and asked, "Where on earth have you been?" Hazel Green, Alabama, as it happens.

Jim Hurst and Missy Raines

Guitarist Jim Hurst and bassist Missy Raines are two of today's most creative and compelling performers in acoustic music. Their unique sound is both sensitive and powerful.

Together, they draw on their varied musical experiences to create a diverse blend of original, new acoustic, bluegrass, swing, and country blues.

Kate Campbell

Kate Campbell released her first album, the award winning Songs From The Levee, in 1994.  Since then she has released nine additional albums.  Her newest CD, Blues And Lamentations was released to retail stores on September 6th. However, it is also available at the katecampbell.com store.   Kate's releases display a variety and diversity which is quite uncommon among many of today's singer-songwriters. Never content to rest upon her previous successes, Kate is continually searching, exploring and reinventing her music.

Jack Williams

The experiences In Jack Williams' 47-year music career that brought him to his current place on the U.S. folk circuit included playing lute and classical guitar, arranging and playing jazz trumpet, composing chamber music, and playing electric guitar in various R&B and rock formats. By the time he had left these styles behind, he had welded them all into a strong, unmistakable voice as a singer/songwriter/storyteller of vivid imagery and a near-legendary acoustic guitarist.

Mary Flower

Two weeks after the wake of Hurricane Katrina's destruction of the city of New Orleans, I received Mary Flower's new CD, Bywater Dance, a musical tribute to that city. The studio she worked in was located in the Bywater district of the city and was a place the city's musicians, fresh from last spring's JazzFest, would stop by. With sad irony, Flower traveled to the Crescent City last spring and worked with many musicians who today are displaced and probably have lost everything. Henry Butler, Jon Cleary, and Dr. Michael White are only a few of the dozens who inspired Flower in her seven days of recording.

Possessed of dazzling instrumental chops and an absolute mastery of acoustic musical styles, The Waybacks are an eclectic acoustic quintet, steeped in a wide array of Americana idioms. Whether mesmerizing audiences at intimate venues or creating a sensation at major festivals, the band has brought its onstage alchemy to enthusiastic fans far and wide.
